eb100-SER-KIT Release Notes

Thank you for your purchase of the Embedded Blue 100 Serial Development Kit (eb100-SER-KIT). This file includes updated information about the eb100-SER-KIT contents.

eb100-SER version 2.0 firmware

The EmbeddedBlue version 2.0 firmware contains a number of significant new features and bug fixes.

  • Added support for Bluetooth Passkey Authentication
  • Added support for 56-bit encryption
  • Added support for 128-bit encryption
  • Added support for module name change
  • Added support for trusted device management
  • Added a command to restore module to factory defaults
  • Enhanced serial firmware upgrade capabilities
  • Reduced overall power consumption
  • Added support for the Bluetooth version 1.2 specification
  • Changed get\set discoverable command to get\set visible (the old command syntax will still work)
  • Fixed the multiple simultaneous connections attempt issue
  • Fixed the command issued to quickly parsing issue

eb500 User Manual - Revision D

The eb500 manual has been updated for the version 2.0 firmware release including the following features.

  • Added the Bluetooth Overview Section as a technology primer
  • Improved the Hardware Connections section with new photographs and more detailed connection descriptions
  • Added a Security section to demonstrate a strong Bluetooth security model
  • Added new version 2.0 command descriptions
  • Added new error codes
  • Added several new frequently asked questions

Installing Pocket PC Applications

In the eb500 User Manual section Communicating between a Pocket PC 2003 device and a Board of Education, there is a step to download the application to the Pocket PC device. In the Samples folder on the CD is a Pocket PC Applications folder. Inside each application folder is a binary executable image, an installation CAB file, and a folder containing the source of the application. To install the application onto your Pocket PC, please follow these steps:

  1. Attach the Pocket PC to your PC and use Microsoft ActiveSync to establish a connection.
    Please refer to the Microsoft ActiveSync documentation and the documentation of your Pocket PC device.
  2. Once the connection is established the ActiveSync dialog will appear, click the Explore icon.
    This will display the Mobile Device window.
  3. Double-click My Pocket PC.
    This will display the root folder of the Pocket PC.
  4. Copy the CAB file, of the application you wish to install, into the root folder of the Pocket PC.
  5. On the Pocket PC, from the Start menu select Programs | File Explorer.
  6. Using File Explorer, browse to My Device, the root folder, and tap the CAB file.
    This will install the application onto the Pocket PC.
  7. Close the File Explorer folder by taping the close icon in the upper right corner.

Running Pocket PC Applications

To run the application, please follow these steps:

  1. On the Pocket PC, from the Start menu select Programs.
    This will open the Programs folder.
  2. Tap the icon of the application.

Uninstalling Pocket PC Applications

To uninstall the application, please follow these steps:

  1. On the Pocket PC, from the Start menu select Settings.
    This will display the Settings dialog.
  2. Tap the System tab.
  3. Tap Remove Programs.
  4. Select the program to remove.
  5. Tap Remove.
    This will display the Remove Program dialog, asking for confirmation that the application should be removed.
  6. Tap Yes.
  7. Tap OK to close the Settings dialog.
  8. Close the Settings folder by taping the close icon in the upper right corner.
